Well, because nothing in life is free.  Priceless, yes.  Free, no.  Seriously, I'm guessing that almost everything you have ever learned in your life has had some cost associated and here is why there is a cost for a WomensAlly.com membership:

Life Experience. Anyone who has learned something the hard way will no doubt admit there was some cost associated.  It may not be a financial cost, but a cost - none the less.  Our EXPERTS will share their experiences with you.

Learned Experience. Whether it be college, conferences, books, magazines, etc.  All learning materials cost money.  How truly valuable are the things you learned for free - with the exception of "don't spit into the wind" or "don't eat the yellow snow", nothing comes to mind?

Conflict of Interest. If content is given away for free, revenue must be generated from lots and lots (and lots and lots) of advertising.  This association corrupts and compromises the types and objectivity of content on the site.  While some advertising might be relevant and useful to a smaller audience, this revenue generation approach is measured by how many eyeballs you bring to the site.  We don't believe that this site is for every eyeball.  It is a quality vs. quantity trade off.    

Exclusivity. Our content providers will share things in private that they wouldn't in the open.  The members will share things in the community that they will not share publicly.  But, more importantly, the privacy will create honest exchanges without concern for who is lurking.  Have you ever been on a conference call and found out 30 minutes in that someone was lurking?  They listened to every word, idea or strategy.  You mentally retrace the call activity.  While I'm certain you didn't say anything inappropriate, you probably felt violated.  Well, we don't want anyone to feel violated.  That is why a private community is so important.
