An Interview with Samantha Jones
By Christina Lohman, Guest Blogger
Samantha Jones is the free spirited Public Relations Manager from Sex and the City who knows exactly how to get what she wants when she wants it. Throughout her career she has stayed true to values and beliefs even though it was not always the easiest thing to do in the moment. Here Samantha gives us a few of her greatest career lessons for savvy sexy women in the working world today. I Love You, but I Love Me More I love you, but I love you more is how I live my life. When Juggling career, family, friends, and all the other daily tasks required of us it is easy to forget that we need to make time for ourselves. We cannot give to others what we have not first given to ourselves. Whether in career, love or life it is important to make yourself a priority. It is not wrong or selfish to spend time on yourself, and will insure that you don’t come to resent people that ask things of you. What Does he Think I'm Gonna do? Get my Period and Ruin his Empire? When I was competing to represent Hotel Heavyweight, Richard Wright, I was keen on the fact that he was threatened by a strong woman, that’s why I walked into his office ready to lay it all out on the line. Crucial conversations are at the core of my success and I have learned that having the guts to say what is on my mind is the only to insure that I am heard. I knew I was the right person to work for Richard Wright so I told him how it was and I got the job. Recovering from Mistakes We all make mistakes, and I am no different. Remember the Lucy Lui, Berken Bag debacle? Clearly I am no stranger to mistakes, but what I have learned is how to recover. When you make a mistake, acknowledge it, apologize and find a new Birkin. Walking through life and the office with the mind set of shoulda, woulda, coulda, won’t get you anywhere. Admit that you are only human and get on with being your fabulous self. Is this helpful? Please let us know in the comments your thoughts on this as well as other ways we can help you with your career and training.
